Higher education diplomas are undergraduate qualifications equivalent to two-thirds of an honorary degree. They focus on a particular job, profession or academic study, and are designed to improve professional or technical skills, or knowledge and understanding of a particular subject.
A DipHE also shows that you are capable of undertaking extensive studies at the university level. The Diploma of Higher Education is a course designed to help people who may not meet the academic requirements for a bachelor’s degree.
The Diploma consists of a combination of introductory and first-year subjects, designed to help students develop the skills necessary to be successful undergraduates.
Successful completion of the Diploma will give you a recognised qualification in your own right. Graduating with the Diploma will also allow you to enter many undergraduate programs and may award you an advanced placement or credit for some of the subjects you successfully completed.
Value of the Diploma
A lot of people ask what a graduate degree is worth. Well, in terms of UCAS rate points, a Graduate Diploma is generally worth 240 credit points (which is not the usual 280 points that a rating such as an NVQ is worth), with 120 of those points earned in Tier 7, and at least 80 in Tier 8.
Because a Bachelor’s degree is worth 360 credit points when the three years are completed, a DipHE is essentially the first two years of a Bachelor’s degree.
Students in the Diploma course will be enrolled in specific curricula assigned to a target degree. You can choose from a variety of majors that include:
