Because of the ageing of the agricultural population, efforts are being intensified to encourage young people to take up farming. Young farmers are given a helping hand to start their business with subsidies, income support and benefits such as additional training.

The increase in the number of students in the agricultural sector, the growing interest in environmental issues and the recognition of secondary activities complementary to agriculture itself, seems to support and strengthen the idea of a renewed interest of young people in agriculture.

For young people today, the possibility of entrepreneurial activity in agriculture is becoming clearer. Farms managed by young people have a higher gross production than enterprises managed by older people.

Universities and educational institutions around the world are developing training courses in the area of agriculture within their curricula designed and targeted specifically for young people. Many of these Young Farmers Courses are free of charge.

A Free Young Farmers Course contributes to youth training and entrepreneurship in agriculture, creating an effort to mobilize young people to identify their specific problems in agriculture, imagine solutions and implement activities to address them.
