Pedagogy addresses the psychological aspect of adaptation, which partially overlaps with the concept of social adaptation and includes the adaptation of the person as an individual to life in society, according to the requirements of this society and his or her own needs, motives and interests.
The most important way to achieve a successful social adaptation is general and specific education, work and vocational training, as well as living together. Pedagogical adaptation supports a student in meeting the expected outcomes of a curriculum. The adaptation is specific to a student and responds to his or her identified needs.
For example, a student with a print disability may require information and directions to be presented both verbally and in writing, and may need to demonstrate learning in the same way. A student with an attention disorder may require that directions and tasks be broken down into “pieces,” and may require a checklist for monitoring task completion.
Because of this need to cover these specific areas for each student, some colleges and universities have designed curricula and courses for free classroom-based and online adaptive education training.
These Pedagogical Adaptation Courses are intended for teachers, teacher trainers, physical therapists and anyone interested in addressing the needs of their students with some disabilities or special needs.
What Are the Pedagogical Adaptation Courses?
The Pedagogical Adaptation Course is a teacher training program that provides its students with theoretical and practical knowledge about the pedagogical methods and techniques used to address special learning needs or adaptation of an individual to a curriculum.
A Pedagogical Adaptation Course provides the necessary tools to determine a student’s disability, learning disorder or special needs, in order to individually address the student’s specific needs and help him/her with appropriate teaching.
Many institutions ask their school staff to implement pedagogical differentiation as a means of ensuring success for all students. Some educational programmes present pedagogical differentiation as the main lever for success for all students.
