Navigation is the art and science of determining the position of a ship, aircraft or other vehicle, and guiding it to a specific destination. Navigation requires that a person knows the relative location of the vehicle or its position compared to other known locations.

Having good navigation skills and knowing how to read a compass and a map can be some of the most important survival skills. Staying oriented and finding your way through mountains, sea and air is essential to your success and safety.

In ancient times, the first methods of navigation consisted of observing landmarks or observing the direction of the sun and stars. Today there are many navigation techniques and instruments used in land, sea and air navigation.

Today there are several Free Navigation Courses designed to provide training in this area. A Free Navigation Course is ideal for beginners in map reading or for those with little experience. Learn to navigate complex terrain or reduced visibility with ease with the knowledge gained in a Free Navigation Course.

What are the Free Navigation Courses ?

A Navigation Course is a training program in geolocation and positioning, which allows an individual, vehicle, ship or aircraft to mark the positioning point, set a destination and plot a course to it by using navigation techniques and tools.

The Navigation Courses teach the student compass readings and topographic maps, among other navigation tools.  The course also covers altimeters and GPS. There are different types of Navigation Courses, although they all have some common instruments and navigation techniques.

Among the different types of Navigation Courses we can find Basic Navigation Courses, Land and Mountain Navigation Courses, Maritime Navigation Courses and Air Navigation Courses.

The basic topics covered in these courses are generally common to the different types, however depending on the area or industry the courses will deal with specific topics, either from the sea, air or land.

These courses also cover topics that provide the safety knowledge needed to navigate and return home safely. Navigation Courses are highly informative, and students have many opportunities to put their newly found knowledge into practice. Many of the Sea and Air Navigation Courses are conducted on a navigation simulator.
