FREE JAZZ COURSE

The history of jazz is a century long story full of individuals who exchange ideas and push artistic boundaries as their ears and times allowed.

Jazz Courses encourage musicians to aspire to their fullest potential by equipping them with essential skills that will prepare them universally for jazz and any other musical genre. Many universities, conservatories and music academies offer these courses free of charge.

This course is designed to develop music perception skills to function at the same level as instrumental and vocal skills, thus achieving a more balanced and dynamic musicality. A Free Jazz Course supports the development of primary musical skills, but at the same time is flexible and adaptable, and conducive to the effective use of space and time.

The Free Jazz Course maintains a contemporary didactic approach to jazz music, covering all the main musical movements of our time.

What are the Jazz Courses ?

A Jazz Course is a program of musical study in the Jazz genre. This course covers different aspects of the genre and will encourage the acquisition of professional skills in a variety of performance genres and offer practical experience in creating group music through ensembles.

The purpose of the Jazz Course is to examine traditional harmony as it applies to jazz music, as well as the rhythm, harmony and melody developed within the language of jazz.

This course will provide students with the knowledge and skills to recognize and write all jazz scales: diatonic, modal, pentatonic, octatonic, full-tone, and superimposed scales. During the development of a Jazz Course students will begin to develop a deeper appreciation and understanding of jazz and music as a whole, while developing the listening, reading, and analytical skills necessary to be culturally proficient.

The main objective of this course is to review the basic elements of jazz theory and thoroughly investigate the principles of applying these elements in relation to areas of jazz improvisation.

The course also covers topics such as music notation which will begin at the beginning, covering the basic concepts of note entry, selection, copying and editing of music. Students will proceed to learn how to create a jazz master score with chord symbols and rhythmic notation, and how to correctly format parts and scores of any size, from quintet to Big Band.

It should be noted that becoming an accomplished musician requires practice, and students should be prepared to work long hours practicing their music.
