If you like working with people and flying, a career as a flight attendant may be for you. Flight attendants are responsible for the safety of passengers before, during and after a flight. They attend to travelers’ needs, from simple requests for drinks and food to serious medical situations.

Certification and training are requirements for this position. Most employers also require flight attendants to have a high school diploma or GED, while others prefer candidates with higher education.

However, there is always the possibility of completing a large amount of training by the hiring airline. In addition, international airlines generally seek candidates for flight attendants who speak one or more languages of the countries they serve.

You should be aware that there are usually additional age and physical fitness requirements for flight attendant positions.  Airlines often require certain age, height and weight restrictions. In addition, employers set high standards for physical appearance, hygiene and cleanliness. The airlines also conduct medical evaluations and background checks on prospective employers. Prospective students are screened to ensure that each meets the basic hiring requirements of the airline.
