FREE ELECTRICAL SAFETY COURSE

Electrical current exposes workers to serious and widespread danger in the workplace. Working near an electrical hazard is dangerous and can be fatal.

Many workers are exposed to electrical energy while carrying out their daily responsibilities, and many are unaware of the potential electrical hazards present in their work environment, making them more vulnerable to the danger of electrocution.

Any work on or near energized equipment should be performed only when steps are taken to provide protection from electrical shock and burns. With proper safety measures, all electrical injuries and deaths can be prevented.

An electrical hazard is considered eliminated when protective measures are implemented at the source (eliminating the hazard or removing the energy), or along the way (placing insulation/electric barrier between the worker and the electrical hazard).

Because there is a mandatory need to train workers and people in general in electrical safety, universities and specialized educational institutions have developed Electrical Safety Courses. Many of these courses are offered free of charge.

A Free Electrical Safety Course provides a closer look at common electrical hazards in the workplace and teaches how to protect yourself around them.

This course is designed as an overview of basic electrical safety for people with limited electrical training who, as part of their job, may be potentially exposed to electrical hazards.

The student in this course will learn to recognize the types of electrical hazards that exist in the workplace and identify common electrical injuries and why they occur.

What are Electrical Safety Courses ?

An Electrical Safety Course is a training program that covers the knowledge and application of electrical safety rules and codes of practice for safe work with or around electrical devices.

This course provides participants with a basic understanding of the electrical hazards associated with high voltage appliances and what is required to evaluate and control these hazards.

It includes the application of safety standards, codes of practice and business procedures and how they apply in the context of transmission, distribution functions and any electrical hazard work.

This course covers compliance with safe work up to the “safe approach distance” defined near energized electrical devices (including power lines) for non-electrical workers. The preparation of electrical risk assessment control measures is also included.

The Electrical Safety Course describes the basic concepts of electricity and how to recognize electrical hazards and covers different types of preventive devices, such as fuses and circuit breakers.

This course is intended for managers, supervisors and workers who are not formally qualified to work with electrical equipment and energized parts.
