The Bachelor of Science in Speech and Hearing is designed for students interested in studying science and human communication disorders.

The Bachelor of Science in Hearing and Language offers students an in-depth introduction to skills and knowledge in speech, hearing, and linguistics that can form the basis for future studies in Speech and Language Pathology, Audiology. It also serves as a basis for research in a wide range of fields related to the speech, hearing and language sciences.

Students will learn to analyze the structure of language from a variety of perspectives, including how we produce, perceive, and understand spoken language. They will learn the similarities and differences among world languages from both a technical (e.g. phonetics and syntax) and socio-cultural perspective.

Some aspects of this grade focus on how language is represented in the brain, the relationship between language and society, how it develops in children learning their first language and in children and adults learning a second or other language. 

Students may also select subjects that involve learning about speech and language disorders, or hearing and its disorders.

What is and what does a Bachelor in Speech and Hearing do ?

A BA in Hearing and Language can apply the science of hearing, disability awareness, and audiological testing to an analysis of the effects of hearing loss on a specific individual that includes recommendations for remediation.

It analyzes clinic patients, research laboratory experiences, or other data in depth to develop skills that can be applied directly to your graduate school or postgraduate employment opportunities.

Interprets data from a speaker with a phonological disorder and supports his conclusions by justifying the scope of his analyses, using primary journal articles, and providing a coherent summary of his thought process.

Some students will use this degree as a pathway to further training in teaching English to adults or study more in areas such as speech forensics or speech technology. 

Other students will consider careers in speech, hearing, or language research, possibly leading to academic or research careers.
