What is the Coronavirus or COVID-19 ? Its Definition
COVID-19 is a new disease that can affect the lungs and airways. It is caused by a virus called a coronavirus. Stay home if you have symptoms of a coronavirus.
Stay home for 14 days if you have either of these two symptoms:
- High temperature – If you feel warm when you touch your chest or back
- A new, continuous cough that occurs repeatedly
How Does the Coronavirus Spread ?
Because it is a new disease, it is not known exactly how the coronavirus spreads from person to person. Similar viruses are spread in cough drops. It is very unlikely that it can be spread through things like packages or food.
- How Do I Avoid Getting or Spreading Coronavirus?
- Wash your hands with soap and water often. Do this for at least 20 seconds.
- Always wash your hands when you come home or go to work.
- Use a gel hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze.
- Put used tissues in the trash can immediately and wash your hands afterwards.
- Try to avoid close contact with people who have any of the above symptoms.
What should you NOT do ?
Avoid touching your eyes, mouth and nose if your hands are not clean.
Advice if you Think About Travelling
There are some countries and areas where there is a greater chance of coming into contact with someone with a coronavirus. If you plan to travel abroad and are concerned about coronavirus, you should look at the travel advice and warnings on each official government page for the countries through which you will be moving. Remember that there are many travel limitations at ports and airports. The recommendation is to do so only if strictly necessary.
Treatment for Coronavirus
There is currently no specific treatment for coronavirus. Keep in mind that taking antibiotics does not work for treating viruses. Treatment aims to relieve symptoms while the body fights the disease. You will need to stay in isolation, away from other people, until you have recovered.
