Psychology of the Color Blue

How does the color blue make you feel ? People have always believed that certain colors can evoke different moods and feelings, and some research has supported the idea that colors can have psychological effects. Blue is a color often found in nature, such as the pale blue of a daytime sky or the rich dark blue of a deep pool of water. For this reason that people often describe the color blue as calm and serene. However, as a cool color, blue can sometimes appear icy, distant or even cold.

Blue is described as a favorite color by many people and is the color most favored by men. Because blue is favored by so many people, it is often seen as a non-threatening color that can appear conservative and traditional. It calls to the mind by providing feelings of calm or serenity. Blue is often seen as a sign of stability and reliability. Companies that wish to project an image of security often use blue in their advertising and marketing efforts.

Blue can also create feelings of sadness or isolation. Like the paintings produced by Picasso during his “blue period,” it can look so lonely, sad or desperate. It is often used to decorate offices because research has shown that people are more productive in blue rooms. Blue is one of the most popular colors, but it is one of the least appetizing. Some weight loss plans even recommend eating your food from a blue plate. Blue rarely occurs naturally in foods, other than blueberries and some plums. In addition, humans are hardwired to avoid foods that are poisonous and the color blue in foods is often a sign of spoilage or poison.

Royal Blue

Royal blue is an intense, vivid blue, and according to history, the color was created for a contest to make a dress for Queen Charlotte (1744-1818), hence its royal name. Royal blue is associated with superiority. And like all blues, it can symbolize trustworthiness and reliability. It can also be calming and harmonious because it is reminiscent of the sea and sky. However, having ties to the emotional feeling of being “blue,” it is also used to express sadness or depression.

Navy Blue

Navy blue was first used after British Royal Navy officers wore uniforms in the color in 1748. The uniforms proved so popular that the color was eventually adopted by navies around the world. Navy blue is quite versatile, blending beautifully with different shades and hues of greens, oranges, reds, yellows and even purples. Because of its roots, the color is easily associated with the military. However, navy blue is just as easily reminiscent of the deep blue ocean and space.

Egyptian Blue

Egyptian blue is an artificial calcium copper silicate with the assumed chemical formula of CaCuSi 4 O 10. The actual composition of samples found at ancient sites varies considerably. Egyptian blue can be prepared by heating a mixture of a calcium compound, copper compound and silica or quartz gel in proportions corresponding to a ratio of 4 SiO 2: 1 CaO: 1 CuO at a temperature of 900°C using a flux of sodium carbonate, potassium carbonate or borax. The mixture is then maintained at a temperature of 800 ° C for a period ranging from 10 to 100 hours.

However, this is a recent custom. It was not until the 1940s that the convention was exactly the opposite: pink was considered the right color for boys, as it was the more masculine and somewhat “decisive” color, while on the other hand blue was the more delicate color and therefore appropriate for girls.
